    Default Knife Crime

Hi I am an A level student currently working on a media project so any feed back would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Please could I have any comment on Knife crime surrounding the folling questions

Do you think that the media (newspapers inparticular) sensationalise knife crime to sell their papers.

Do you think that ALL teenagers are being wrongly labelled for association with this crime.

Does the media encourage criminal activity via computer games ect

Thank You very much. Maria x

Do your own work you lazy student!!

Yes the papers senstaionalise knife crime and make it appear far worse because they use statistics from a number of in-consistent and conflicting sources that are easy to manipulate without ever putting the problem into a true representative perspective. Yes knife crime can affect everyone, but under what circumstances? The chances of being knifed in a fight for a pensioner are going to be far less likely than someone who goes to bars and clubs of a weekend. The papers make it seem as though we are all at risk when it is in fact certain layers of society that are far more susceptible (those in deprived inner city areas, people who go clubbing alot, young people) to any sort of crime compared to others (wealthy, suburban/village dwellers, people over the age of 50...). And again there are obvious differences between crime types (you cant possibly have your car broken into if your under the age of 16 because you wont have a car, and your far more likely to be burgled if your aged over 30 because your much more likely to afford and live in the kinds of property attractive to burglars)

Yes ALL teenagers are wrongly represented, and also certain ethnic groups are wrongly represented. Across England and Wales the Youth Justice Board estimiated that 7.7% of 10-17 year olds had committed a crime. This was slightly higher for black youth (10%) and lower for Asian youth (4%) - although still at least 90% of youth regardless of ethnicity had not been believed to have committed a crime (or been caught). However there are reasons behind this - i would guess the lower representation of Asian youth lies in their family structure, whilst the overrepresentation of black youth (spearheaded by drugs offences) may be down to the fact that black youth are more than 5x likely to be stopped and searched by police than any other ethnicity, this is even true in the London Borough of Richmond which is 96% white! All figures can be found at the YJB website and Met Police Publications Scheme website

No i do not belive the media encourage crime through computer games etc. Yes there are a few people who will be influenced by this sort of thing but the large majority of people are not.

Default Two sides of the coin.

There are always 2 sides of the coin.there are human minds that are getting affected by the fighting games.Medically speaking they do aggravate our nerves and charge us up in a negative way but that does not declare every teenager playing computer games to become a terrorist.

Yes there are certain stratas of the society that are ,ore at risk to crimes.Like woman, children and the old.But there is professional help regarding all crimes if one wants to go to the root of it.
