I have recently received a letter from a company called Intrum Justitia, who claim I owe paypal over £660.00 pounds.

Initialy I thought this letter was a con, as they request imediate payment over the phone (premium rate number).

I checked my paypal account and it turns out my balance is -£660. I have not used my paypal account for well over a year.

I checked recent transactions and some time in Nov 07 3 payments entered my paypal account totaling this £660.

It then seems, 5 Transactions have been withdrawn from my paypal account again totaling the £660 into an account that I dont own.

Then the original payments into my paypal account have been reversed, leaving my paypal account at a debit balance of -£660

I contacted paypal and they have told me that the initial payments into my paypal account were reported fraudelent and have been reversed. and i must have the funds as i have transfered them to my bank account. When i told them i hadnt used my account for over a year, and that the account the funds were transfered to was not mine, they said. oh thats weird.

I have contacted the debt collectors via post ( i refuse to pay a premium rate to contact them) to tell them that in accordance with paypals terms and conditions as these transactions are fraudelent i am not liable for any associated cost.

I am awaiting to hear from both paypal and intrum justitia about the matter.. in the mean time i would be gratefull of any advice, similar experiences and general comments ..

Many Thanks

I'll say this now. Intrum Justitia are known for there attitude. I havent used PayPal in several years, can you delete your PayPal account? Although I'd hazard a guess thats a no, due to the sky high numbers of scammers etc using sites like eBay.

Intrum Justitia keep you on the phone for hours, putting you on hold [remember this a premium rate phone service]. There a corupt company and ran by idiots.

I wouldnt even bother trying to argue with them.

I would just walk away from paypal. Have any direct debits on the account stopped or your card changed.

Paypal have a habbit of sending out debt collector letters here in the uk i have had them too when my account was -£100 over a bad transaction where the buyer on ebay claimed they did not get the item even though i sent the item special delivery and provided tracking details they still favoured the buyer.

I got about 4 debt collector letters. If you just dont open them and right return to sender they dont send any debt collectors around.

Its just a bluff.
