I recently took a week off work, when i went back into work i went into a colleagues office where he asked me to have a look at something and handed me a bit of paper.

the document he handed me was a business improvement report off my workstation which comments on staff, equipment, site, vehicles etc which is what i have to do once a week.

the colleague who had found it had showed it everyone when i was on holiday and started having a go at me saying he didn't expect this from me and that no one could trust me now at that work site, now the first main thing that p'd me off was that I am actually higher up in the company then him but thats beside the point, i was wondering really what sort of rules he has broken if any.

He has gain accessed to my computer without my permission for a start, it is password protected but all managers can gain access to passwords if another member of staff is on leave if they have a need to do so. In the company handbook it says you aren't supposed to access each others computers.

He went on my computer and read my e-mails and all my reports since i have worked for the company (6 months now) and these reports go from me directly to the 3 managing directors, no one else inbetween.

Its not as if he read it because I left it visible on my screen, he accessed my pc, browsed through my documents and emails and actually printed them off making hard copies.

to me it feels he has invaded my privacy and betrayed my trust. these reports are part of my job.

any advice would be much appreaciated.

thanks.

Unfortunately, it is not a crime. What you have is a breach of confidentiality. This is a civil matter and needs taking up with your senior manager.bobby

...in most companies this would mean instant dismissal of the person that has done this...I would look internally for a complaints procedure thro HR and if necessary get a union involved... this is the worst ever intercompany crime...what would happen if someone managed to get the salaries of all employees...or home addresses....unbelievable that that was possible at all your IT policies are not conform to any standard, even in the 80's and 90's such rules and practices were used...let alone with computer crime these days

what if he managed to get confidential inof about quotes and prices andpassedthese to competition companies?...sure that the company would react then...
