yup!...the gun crime level in Birmingham was higher than New York some time ago...probably coz they changed to zero tolerency...I felt safer there than I do here...thats sad. We too soft over here..thats y we have so much problems, plus a lot of our police are corrupt, the communities have less & less faith in authority & society in general, so eyes are shut, mouths turn dumb, ears turn deaf..y?...because people are less trustworthy nowadays, its all about what u can get out of someone or something...plus the threat of retaliation prevents a lot of crime being dealt with properly & a poor justice system that seems to benefit the offender more than the victim. Maybe if they made prisons into prisons instead of comfy homes with all mod cons etc...When I was living in Dominican Republic, I saw the jails/cells...lol...they had a concrete room shared with up to 10 inmates...no bed, a bucket to share as a toilet, you dont eat unless someone brings you food...thats prison! our fancy prisons arnt a deterrent! Im all for human rights but its got ridiculous & isnt working when it comes to preventing or solving crime or indeed protecting the people who try to help keep crime down or give assistance to those who are affected. Hence y no-one really bothers coz those that make a stand are persecuted or told they not compassionate to the criminals who r just human after all...lol...we know that but some human rights activists need to get a reality check....for all our sakes!

Wow this is horrible, I hope things get better there. I think people need to come together more and, watch each others backs aswell. I also think the police need to address these problems very strictly.

I didn't realize it was such a high crime area there. Doesn't make you feel safe to walk down the street, that's for sure
I got no problem everytime i went to London. I didnt see any crime there though.
London is the most popular city within city limits in the European Union
it’s thickly populated with wide range of peoples, cultures and religions,
speaking over 300 different languages. so if you really think More people = more crimes. It’s not all the time we see crimes in london, tell me a city that doesn’t have crimes?

Of course there are crimes happening evrywhere. In my personal opinion maybe there are more crimes in areas that is not so popular its just that it is not been publicised like what happen here in London. There is always a higher rate crime in a more populated area but it can happen anywhere.
Maybe those who live in london or nearby can share your crime experiences.;)

i live in an area of London notorious for gangs and gunds. Any outsider will tell you not to come here cos its dangerous.
Its bollocks, people buy into hype, reputation and media. Im not saying where i live is wonderful, it has its problems. But much of the crimes of violence and gangs only affect those involved, its children that are most at risk from violent crime and robbery. Residential Burglary rates are at there lowest in London since 1975!
The number of murders is much lower than it was 3 years ago (232 compared to 168 in the last year)
I think the main problem people have today is that of Anti-Social Behaviour. If u want to be safe take simple precautions and dont make yourself an easy target.
Its like in the underground pickpockets will look out for people trying to feel which pocket they have it in, makes the pickpockets job easy! Walking around flashing your phone/ipod/etc is just inviting a robbery or snatch theft in some areas. Basic common sense on some peoples parts would reduce personal crime.
On a whole though i dont think London is as bad as many European cities, especially in terms of violence and robbery, i mean come on its hardly Moscow?
And Spain has Europes highest robbery rate (significantly) suprisingly
